HIGHWAY GRRLS
Highway Grrls is one artist, Robin Rothrock. The name of the gallery comes from Robin growing up a surfer in Satellite Beach while her parents collected original Highwaymen paintings from the restaurant that was at Mather’s Bridge. Like the Highwaymen, Robin also finds inspiration in the Florida sky and water. The ocean and space are Robin’s inspiration for creating beauty through pushing the boundaries of acrylic paint on multiple surfaces from canvas to glass. Each new surface increases opportunity to experience the beauty of the paint in a different way! Robin’s art is a form of “process art” which means she is unclear where she is going until she gets there. There is a certain serendipity and Zen quality to this form of painting. Many pleasant discoveries happen!

ROBIN ROTHROCK
Robin Rothrock was born in the dry climate of West Texas. It is no surprise then, that she is continually drawn to wetter regions the same way a tree's roots search for it. Water plays an important role in both in her choice of where to live and what — and how — to paint. She was first introduced to Florida by her family,  growing up a surfer on the shores of Satellite Beach, her head turned upwards to the blue skies on the many occasions of space program launches, in which her family participated and celebrated. After over a quarter of a century in land-locked Shreveport, Louisiana, Robin has returned once more to the Phalo Blue waters and skies of her youth. In the process of her own technique, hand-printing, she continues to illustrate the importance of water both as a tool and a subject, capturing the essence of her own connections to what she sees and feels.
